Surgical Services

When renovations and modernization began at Community Memorial in 1987, there were five surgeons who performed 1,200 procedures at the hospital. Today there are 11 surgeons and the number of annual procedures has risen to 2,400. To meet this need, the hospital has doubled the size of its operating room area. There are now two more surgical suites, a larger recovery area and a large room for performing diagnostic and minor surgical procedures.

The hospital has also added an ambulatory surgery center, created to help streamline procedures that do not require overnight hospitalization, such as knee arthroscopy and cataract surgery.

The addition of two new operating rooms means total joint replacements can be performed simultaneously. One of the new rooms is equipped with a vertical laminar flow system (the hospital's second) which is crucial for total joint replacements. The system reduces ambient bacteria in the air which dramatically cuts the risk of infection following surgery.
