Patient Access Representative: Per-Diem

Community Memorial Hospital, in Hamilton NY an esteemed healthcare system that provides primary care, performs sophisticated orthopedic surgery, meets the demand for same day surgery, and provides a complete roster of diagnostic testing and ancillary services is seeking a per-diem Patient Services Representative to join our team!

Responsibilities include:
1. Conduct patient financial interviews to assist with the resolution of the patient’s account, and to ensure compliance with the hospital financial resolution policies.
-Assist patients through financial assistance process to assess charity care eligibility and aid in applying for insurance through the health insurance marketplace. Assists patients with financial assistance applications as needed and completes charity processing for assigned patients, as appropriate
-Advises and counsels patients and guarantors as to rights, responsibilities and procedures with regards to payment for care.
-Works with patient to identify the most appropriate account resolution.
2. Verify patient demographic information and insurance coverage at the time of visit, and collect copay, deductible or deposits for scheduled surgeries. If information is obtained after initial registration, notifies registration and utilization review of corrections and additions.
3. Serves as the financial liaison between the patient, hospital, physician office, billing office, and insurance companies to identify potential problems and assist in the resolution of current problems.
4. Visit all self-pay inpatients to explain billing process and available options for financial assistance or payment options. May need to spend time in other departments in the hospital in order to reach patients needing our assistance.
5. Coordinate patient accounts with our self-pay vendor and bad debt vendor.
6. Documents activity and patient communication on patient’s accounts. Work closely with Billing Department to communicate with patients regarding billing and insurance issues on accounts.
7. Become efficient in using our patient accounting software by handling point of service payments, updating insurance information and patient information.
8. Ensures all aspects of confidentiality are maintained, including confidential files.
9. Complies with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
10. Assist with pre-authorization verification, benefit verification, and patient registration when need arises. This position will be cross-trained with Patient Access to become proficient in patient registration functions.
11. Support other special projects and duties as assigned.

Qualified candidates should possess the following:
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
3. Prior experience in hospital medical billing, registration or healthcare related field.
4. Familiarity with hospital medical billing practices, insurance coding and customer service required.
5. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
6. Demonstrate clear written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively.
7. Must have high level of professionalism with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
8. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
