Job Description

The Referral Coordinator is responsible for coordinating patient insurance referral and authorization needs that are generated by Primary Care Providers (PCPs). This position will work collaboratively with Physicians, Advanced Practice Practitioners (APPs), clinical team members, clerical team members and Family Health Center administration. The Referral Coordinator will have strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to be cross-trained in other areas including Reception.

1. Responsible for obtaining insurance referrals and prior authorizations, while coordinating appointments and any scheduling needs for both. Referrals will encompass specialty care and other services. Prior authorizations will include radiology studies, laboratory testing and procedures.

2. Ensures that all necessary reports and test results are completed and are faxed to the referring provider.

3. Participates in meetings with all Physicians, APPs and other team members.

4. Provides education on referral processes as appropriate to fellow team members.

5. Assists patients in obtaining DME equipment and home health care services ordered by PCPs.

6. Works collaboratively with patients and their PCPs to ensure referral loops are closed and patient needs are met.

7. Provides Reception coverage as needed. Duties to include: greeting patients, answering phone calls, appointment registration, insurance verification, copay collection and appointment scheduling.

Associates degree or relevant experience within the medical field.
Preferred experience working with insurance companies, DME providers and home health care organizations
Previous EMR experience required.
