From Injury to Recovery: Trusted Orthopedic Trauma Care When You Need It Most

A broken bone or acute orthopedic injury requires prompt evaluation and treatment. Community Memorial's orthopedic team provides expert fracture and trauma care for children and adults, treating injuries ranging from sports-related fractures and workplace accidents to falls and more complex orthopedic trauma. We're here to assess your injury, begin treatment quickly, and support your recovery every step of the way.

What Type of Fracture or Injury Are You Experiencing?

Suspected Fractures & Broken Bones

Suspected Fractures & Broken Bones

  • Immediate, significant pain at the site of injury
  • Swelling, bruising, and tenderness to the touch
  • Inability to bear weight or use the affected limb
  • Pain following a fall, sports collision, or accident

Many fractures heal successfully with non-surgical treatment, including casting, splinting, or bracing. Early evaluation and imaging, such as an X-ray, are essential to confirm a fracture, ensure proper alignment, and support healing.

Acute Tendon & Soft Tissue Injuries

Acute Tendon & Soft Tissue Injuries

  • Achilles tendon ruptures
  • Quadriceps tendon tears
  • Distal biceps ruptures
  • Significant weakness, popping, or snapping sensation

Acute tendon injuries often require prompt diagnosis and expert care. Our orthopedic team carefully evaluates each injury to determine whether non-surgical management or surgical repair will offer the best outcome and properly restore your mobility.

Severe Trauma & Emergency Injuries

Severe Trauma & Emergency Injuries

  • Visible deformity or an unusual angle
  • Open fractures (bone visible through the skin)
  • Loss of sensation or circulation below the injury
  • Injuries following high-impact trauma (e.g., vehicle accidents)

Complex or high-energy injuries require immediate emergency care. Our trauma specialists provide advanced surgical stabilization and reconstructive surgery to restore bone alignment, protect surrounding structures, and optimize long-term function.

FAQs

Understanding Your Injury

How do I know if my bone is broken?

Common signs of a fracture include immediate, significant pain at the site of injury; swelling and bruising; visible deformity or an unusual angle; inability to bear weight or use the affected limb; and tenderness to the touch. Only imaging such as an X-ray or CT scan can confirm a fracture and determine its severity.

What injuries require emergency care?

Go to the emergency department immediately for open fractures (bone visible through the skin), fractures with significant deformity, suspected spinal fractures, injuries with loss of sensation or circulation below the injury site, injuries following high-impact trauma such as a vehicle accident or serious fall, and any injury with suspected dislocation.

Can I walk on a broken bone?

Some fractures, particularly of the foot, ankle, and lower leg, may still allow limited weight-bearing, but doing so can worsen the injury. If you suspect a fracture, limit weight-bearing and seek evaluation as soon as possible. When in doubt, err on the side of caution.

Treatment & Diagnosis

How long does a broken bone take to heal?

Healing time varies by bone, fracture type, and patient age and health. Simple fractures may heal within 6 to 8 weeks with proper immobilization. More complex fractures or those requiring surgical fixation may take several months. Your orthopedic specialist will provide a realistic recovery timeline based on your specific injury.

Will I need surgery for my fracture?

Many fractures heal successfully with non-surgical treatment, including casting, splinting, or bracing. Surgery may be recommended for fractures that are displaced, unstable, involve the joint surface, or do not respond to conservative care. Your surgeon will discuss all options and help you make an informed decision.

Do you treat acute tendon tears in addition to broken bones?

Yes. Our orthopedic team treats a variety of acute tendon injuries, including Achilles tendon ruptures, quadriceps tendon tears, and distal biceps ruptures. We carefully evaluate each injury to determine whether non-surgical management or surgical repair will offer the best outcome for your recovery.

Appointments & Getting Care

How soon should I be seen after an injury?

For significant injuries, especially those involving joint instability, inability to bear weight, or suspected fracture, evaluation within 24 to 48 hours is recommended. Many sports injuries benefit from early diagnosis, which can improve outcomes and reduce recovery time.

Do I need a referral to see an orthopedic specialist?

Referral requirements vary by insurance plan. Our team can help you understand your coverage and determine next steps. Many patients can be seen at our walk-in clinic without a prior referral.

How does a walk-in orthopedic clinic work?

A walk-in orthopedic clinic provides convenient access to specialized care for musculoskeletal injuries and joint pain without requiring a scheduled appointment. Patients can receive an evaluation, imaging if needed, and recommendations for treatment or follow-up care from an orthopedic provider.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring a photo ID, insurance card, a list of current medications, and any relevant medical records or imaging studies related to your shoulder pain or injury. Wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the shoulder may also be helpful during your evaluation.

What should I do after being treated for a fracture in the ER or Urgent Care?

Treating a fracture doesn't end after your initial emergency visit. If you were seen in the Emergency Department or at an urgent care facility, our team can arrange a follow-up appointment to review your imaging, continue your orthopedic care, and transition you to the appropriate level of long-term treatment.

Don't Wait on a Fracture or Acute Injury

Whether you've suffered a broken bone, a sports injury, or another orthopedic emergency, Community Memorial's specialists are here to provide prompt evaluation and expert care. Schedule a follow-up appointment or visit one of our orthopedic clinics to get started.
