Everyday Overuse & Tendinitis
Chronic sports pain is often caused by repetitive movement or overuse. Early evaluation can help relieve pain, improve mobility, and prevent symptoms from worsening.
Ligament Tears & Joint Injuries
ACL and MCL tears, meniscus injuries, and labral tears are frequently seen in athletes and can significantly limit athletic function. An accurate diagnosis is the first step toward relieving pain and restoring function.
Sudden Injury or Severe Pain
Sudden or severe pain may indicate a fracture, severe sprain, or another condition requiring prompt evaluation. Our orthopedic specialists can quickly assess your symptoms and recommend the appropriate treatment.

FAQs
Understanding Your Symptoms
Community Memorial's orthopedic team treats a full range of sports-related injuries, including ACL and MCL tears, meniscus injuries, rotator cuff tears, labral tears, ankle sprains, fractures, tendon injuries, and overuse conditions such as stress fractures and tendinitis.
Seek evaluation promptly if you experience significant swelling, joint instability, inability to bear weight, numbness or tingling, a popping or snapping sensation at the time of injury, or pain that does not improve within a few days. When in doubt, getting evaluated is always the right call.
Treatment & Diagnosis
Dislocations, suspected rotator cuff or labral tears, severe swelling, sudden instability, and injuries that prevent you from moving or lifting your arm should be evaluated as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment can help reduce complications and support recovery.
Treatment ranges from conservative care, such as physical therapy and bracing for less severe injuries, to advanced arthroscopic surgical repair for complete tears or cases where non-surgical management hasn't provided adequate relief.
Ice is generally recommended in the first 48 to 72 hours after an acute injury to reduce swelling and inflammation. Heat is better suited for muscle stiffness or soreness after the initial swelling has resolved. Your care team will provide specific guidance based on your injury.
Appointments & Getting Care
For significant injuries, especially those involving joint instability, inability to bear weight, or suspected fracture, evaluation within 24 to 48 hours is recommended. Many sports injuries benefit from early diagnosis, which can improve outcomes and reduce recovery time.
Referral requirements vary by insurance plan. Our team can help you understand your coverage and determine next steps. Many patients can be seen at our walk-in clinic without a prior referral.
A walk-in orthopedic clinic provides convenient access to specialized care for musculoskeletal injuries and joint pain without requiring a scheduled appointment. Patients can receive an evaluation, imaging if needed, and recommendations for treatment or follow-up care from an orthopedic provider.
Please bring a photo ID, insurance card, a list of current medications, and any relevant medical records or imaging studies related to your shoulder pain or injury. Wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the shoulder may also be helpful during your evaluation.
Most sports injuries can be evaluated by an orthopedic specialist, but some symptoms require immediate medical attention. Go to the emergency room if you experience a visible deformity, an inability to move the injured limb, severe pain following a high-impact injury, or an injury accompanied by numbness or loss of circulation in the affected area. If you're unsure whether your symptoms require emergency care, seek medical attention promptly.
