Your Breast Health Journey: Biopsy & Support at CMH

Early Detection Procedures by Dr. McBride

Early detection and treatment are crucial in managing breast health. If an abnormality or lesion is discovered through imaging, a breast biopsy may be recommended to determine its nature. This procedure involves removing a small sample of breast tissue for laboratory testing and examination to help provide an accurate diagnosis.

At CMH, Dr. Nils-Tomas McBride, one of our dedicated General Surgeons, offers breast biopsy surgical services. The biopsy process begins after a lesion is identified on imaging. Dr. McBride will carefully evaluate these images to assess if the lesion can be sampled. If a biopsy is deemed necessary based on the imaging, Dr. McBride will discuss and recommend the most appropriate method customized for your specific situation.

CMH offers several types of breast biopsies, including:

Mammogram-guided biopsy: Utilizing mammography to pinpoint the area of concern.

Ultrasound-guided biopsy: Employing ultrasound imaging to locate the lesion. In this procedure, the lesion is first located using ultrasound. Then, a local anesthetic is administered to ensure your comfort. A small incision is made, and the biopsy is performed using a core biopsy needle to obtain tissue samples.

Surgical biopsy: A surgical procedure, sometimes guided by radiology, to remove a larger tissue sample.
