What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?
How Does PRP Work?
Dr. Banga offers PRP at Community Memorial. During your visit with him, he will withdraw a small amount of blood from a vein in your arm. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge, where the high-speed spinning process separates the platelets and other beneficial growth factors from the blood. The entire PRP production process usually takes less than 30 minutes.
The PRP Process
A consultation and examination with your provider will help determine if PRP therapy is right for you. If you’re taking anti-inflammatory medications or blood thinners, you may be advised to temporarily discontinue their use until your PRP treatment has taken place.
Are You a Candidate for PRP?
You may be a candidate for PRP therapy if you suffer from any of these conditions.
Additionally, there is new research and developing technology that continues to expand the application of PRP therapy, as it may help those with soft-tissue injuries to muscles, tendons, and ligaments, as well as those suffering with osteoarthritis.
- Neck and back pain
- Chronic ligament or tendon injuries
- Golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow
- Osteoarthritis of the hip, knee, or shoulder joints
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Injuries of the cartilage, ligaments, and tendons
What are the Risks of PRP?
PRP therapy uses the body’s own healing abilities, and that makes side effects rare. You should have a detailed discussion with your provider to understand all the potential risks and benefits associated with PRP therapy.
Does My Insurance Cover PRP?
While PRP treatments have been around for many years, many insurance companies still consider the treatment experimental. Our office will contact your insurance company to confirm whether they will cover your procedure. If your insurance will not cover PRP treatment, our team is available to discuss other options with you, such as iovera°.
What is iovera°?
iovera° offers advanced cold technology for immediate and long-lasting pain relief, particularly for knee pain associated with osteoarthritis (OA) or pain associated with knee replacement surgery. This device can also be used to provide pain relief in the shoulder, foot, and ankle.

What is the CartiHeal Agili-C?
If you’re living with knee pain caused by damaged cartilage, you may feel like your only options are temporary relief or joint replacement. There is now an advanced, one-step treatment designed to help restore both cartilage and the underlying bone.
The CartiHeal Agili-C implant is a porous, biocompatible scaffold that is placed into the damaged area of the knee. Over time, it supports your body’s natural healing response, encouraging regeneration of cartilage and repair of the bone beneath it.
Are you a candidate for CartiHeal Agili-C?
This treatment may be an option for patients with:
- Osteochondral (bone and cartilage) lesions
- Focal cartilage defects
- Mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee
- Persistent knee pain that has not improved with conservative treatment
A consultation and examination with your orthopedic provider will determine if this procedure is right for you.
How is CartiHeal Agili-C different from other treatments?
Traditional procedures such as microfracture or debridement are designed to stimulate healing, but may not fully restore cartilage. For many patients with early to moderate arthritis, Agili-C may offer meaningful pain relief, improve mobility, and help delay or avoid joint replacement surgery. Your orthopedic specialist will discuss available options and determine whether advanced cartilage repair is appropriate for your condition and goals.
What are the risks?
As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks. Your provider will discuss the benefits and possible complications with you to help you make an informed decision. If chronic knee pain is limiting your mobility or affecting your quality of life, our team can help you explore whether advanced cartilage repair is an appropriate option.
