What is your philosophy of care?
My philosophy of care is to put myself in the patients’ shoes. I want to connect with them and understand them.
I wanted a career that would provide me with unlimited opportunities. My dad was a doctor, so I knew going into Medical School would put me on a track for a meaningful career that could take me anywhere in the world.
I built my practice around having compassion for patients, and I think it made a difference in how my team around me works and cares for our patients.
What is the most important factor in a doctor-patient relationship, and why?
Trust. It is important to me that patients trust me. I take the time to get to know them and understand their lifestyle to care for them.
What are your favorite hobbies or activities when you’re not working?
Growing up I was an active hunter and fisherman. I have an english setter who keeps me busy and has gotten me back outside doing the things I love again.
I am happily married; together we have five children: four girls and one boy.

Learn more about Dr. Morin
Jocelyn Morin, MD, practices Family Medicine and has board certification from the American Board of Family Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, attended medical school at the Ohio State University College of Medicine, and completed her residency and training through the Ohio State University Family Medicine Program. Professional memberships include AAFP, AMA, and NYAFP.
Dr. Morin served as a Peace Corps Volunteer for three years as a secondary school teacher and chemistry professor in Malawi and Lesotho. She lives in Cazenovia with her husband and two children.
I saw the practice of medicine as perfect combination of two of my passions: service and science. From a very young age I was fascinated by biology; disease and human physiology included. My undergraduate major was biochemistry. I’ve also been very involved in research through college, medical school, and residency, but I realized I wouldn’t be satisfied only with research; I wanted to have meaningful personal connections and feel like I was serving the people around me in my work. My life experiences, starting with ill family members and friends, service in Peace Corps, and later on volunteering for the homeless and at free clinics, called me to medicine, and family medicine in particular, to help people.
The doctor-patient relationship is the most important thing in medicine. I aim to get to know my patients and understand their background and community so we can tailor medicine to their specific needs. I value trust and mutual respect, and I want my patients to be empowered with the information to make their own decisions and I might take on different roles in this relationship: as a coach motivating patients to take charge of their health, as an interpreter of tests and information, as a liaison who coordinates patient care between specialists, and as an advocate for health in the community.
My family, my patients, the place I live (love Cazenovia), and my work.
Spending time with my family, cooking and appreciating good food, spending time hiking, biking boating and canoeing outdoors, playing music (piano and viola), travels to new and interesting places, reading for pleasure, and most recently, tennis.
